THIS BIG BUNDLE CONTAINS ALL OF THE FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM LESSONS, IN ADDITION TO THE KNOWLEDGE ORGANISER! In the engaging and comprehensive lessons, students are introduced to each of the five pillars of Islam: Shahada Salah Zakah Sawm Hajj Each lesson provides students with an in-depth understanding of the pillar, through a range of comprehension, knowledge recall, and creative activities. Children also consider their own personal spirituality, discussing important concepts such as perseverance, tolerance and respect. The lessons are tried and tested, and the nature of the colouful, step-by-step PowerPoint presentations (averaging around 17-18 slides per lesson) makes them easy for teachers and students to follow. All of the readings, worksheets, and other activities are also provided (in both Word and PDF), as well as hyperlinks to a number of video resources. Also included is the knowledge organiser, which serves as a brilliant reference point for an overview of the five pillars, for use by teachers, students, or to be sent home to parents to support learning from home. In the past, I have used these resources with children in upper Key Stage 2 (years 5 and 6). The key learning is aligned with regional expectations for RE, and also the content prescribed by most diocese regions.

Endurance - Collective Worship Session!

This fun and original collective worship session aims to assist children in understanding the value of endurance, through: Understanding what endurance is, and recognising why it is important; Understanding what the bible teaches us about endurance, and learning about how Jesus demonstrated endurance; Completing a fun challenge to demonstrate their own endurance; Learning strategies to demonstrate endurance in their own lives. This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to real-life examples of endurance in action (for example in the lives of J.K Rowling, Ed Sheeran and Lionel Messi) in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives. The session also includes a reading and discussion centering on the endurance shown by Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The session also includes a fun interactive activity, a wonderful, thought-provoking video about the importance of endurance, and various discussion activities regarding how to show endurance in different areas of their own lives. No further resources are required, except for 3 potatoes and 3 straws for the endurance activity. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included two pages of notes to assist the speaker. These fun and original collective worships sessions aim to aid children in developing their understanding of Christian themes. The bundle contains collective worship sessions on: Compassion Honesty Endurance Humility Celebrating Differences Peace Creativity Thankfulness All of the sessions have been tried and tested, and have always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to scenarios and dilemmas that they themselves might find themselves in, in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives. Each session also links to an apt bible story, each of which has been modified to suit a younger audience. There are also fun role-play activities, beautiful, thought-provoking videos exemplifying each theme, and various discussion activities regarding how to show the skills in different areas of their own lives. No further resources are required, everything that you need to present the sessions is included. Each set of slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes for each session to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

In this engaging lesson, students are introduced to the Sikh religion and to the first Sikh Guru: Guru Nanak. They learn about the key events in his life, including his vision of God, and they begin to understand the importance of Guru Nanak to people who follow Sikhism. The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey: -Considering what children already know about Sikhism, and what they would still like to know; -Introducing children to the Sikh religion, including sharing information about where and when the faith started; -Watching an engaging, age-appropriate video (hyperlinked) to find out about the main events of Guru Nanak’s life; -Answering questions to check their understanding of the video information; -Finding out key information about how the Sikh Guru tradition started as a result of Guru Nanak, and then introducing them to information about how his life is celebrated today (hyperlinked); -Considering personal spirituality questions, including their perceptions of the Guru Nanak’s main revelations about God. -Comparing Guru Nanak’s ‘turning point’ with the turning point of prophets/ characters in other religions; -Completing a creative task in which they consider a ‘turning point’ in their own lives; -Self-reflecting on the extent to which they feel they have met the learning objectives. In this engaging and informative lesson, children learn what symbols are, and begin to interpret and reflect on the meaning of symbols. They apply this knowledge in creating their own symbols, considering what the objects/ animals, colours and shapes that they select represent. I used this as an introductory lesson, before then going into more depth about different religious symbols in the subsequent lessons. Children enjoyed it and it gave them a solid understanding of symbols to build on in the next steps of their learning. This resource pack contains a comprehensive and colourful 15-slide Powerpoint, which guides teachers and students through the learning activities. A template worksheet is also provided (in Word and PDF) for the students to create and describe their symbol. This interesting session aims to introduce children to some key images of the Buddha, providing them with an opportunity to decode some of the key meanings within pictures and sculptures. Children learn that there are many different representations of the Buddha, aiming to portray different aspects of Siddhartha Gautama’s life and character. Children learn through: -Acting as detectives, inferring and deducing the hidden meanings within pictures; -Considering the key concept of ‘balance’, and understanding how this is a key feature of the Buddhist religion; -Applying some of the key concepts to their own lives.
